The Reversal of Respectable Clothing

      A while ago, wearing a suit showed that you had a well-paying and healthy job. People like bank workers, insurance salesmen and professors would wear a suit to show their financial superiority, whereas wearing casual clothing often meant that you had a service job or none at all. But that has reversed. Now wearing a suit shows that you're in a high-responsibility, high-stress job. The most depressed, stressed out people I see are always in an ironed suit. And the people who are happy, with a casual job can wear T-shirts and jeans, often with a Timbuk-2 bag and an iPhone. But there is a certain graph, a curve to this. There are the stressful jobs that don't require a suit, and the nice jobs that encourage a suit, though those can be rare.
